Today’s Afternoon Show was a very special event – the final of Bang the Bodhran, a competition in partnership with St. Francis Credit Union Ennis.  Bodhran players from across the county were invited to call to our outside broadcast on Francis Street to play their bodhran’s and be in with a chance of winning €300 in cash. Adjudicator of the event Tommy Hayes, professional Bodhran Player of Stockton’s Wing, Altan and Riverdance fame was with us to judge. We were also joined by World Champion dancer and Ennis native Michael Donnellan who set the pace for our contestants!

Amanda Hogan from Shannon is with the Clare Hurlers Supporters Club and also joined Máire on the show to give us a taste of the excitement felt around Clare in the past days and weeks as the Banner gears up for the greatest sporting event of the year.  The club has over 200 subscribers who receive all the GAA news updates and are entered into draws for tickets throughout the year – they also recently organised a special open training session with the Senior Hurling team and Davy Fitzgerald, which allowed fans to meet the team.

Stylist Tess Purcell was also in our outside broadcast studio to help us out with what to wear to the match if you don’t have a jersey! Tess gave us ideas on saffron and blue options in the shops and gave us make up tips for women going to the match – her advice make sure to wear a primer so that your make up lasts through the day!

Helen Mulqueen is one of the organisers of the annual Tulla Trad Festival and joined Máire to let listeners know some of the highlights of the three-day event.  It all kicks off tonight from 8pm and runs until Sunday night – with loads of ceili’s, sessions, concerts, dances.  The opening will include the Chapel Gate Wren Boys who will march through town and Clare FM’s own Eoin O’Neill from 8pm in the Courthouse. And congratulations to Michael Keehan in O’Callaghan’s Mills who won a pair of match tickets for the big game on Sunday when Clare take on Cork in the All Ireland Senior Hurling Final – Up the Banner!
