On today’s edition of The Afternoon Show Gavin Grace spoke with Raymond Byrne, Director for Research with the Law Reform Commission. They discussed how the Justice Minister has said he will study a report from the Commission, which recommends allowing foreign nationals living here sit on juries as part of an overhaul of the system. That recommendation relates to citizens who have lived in Ireland for five years or more. Another concern in the report relates to jury misconduct, including the use of wireless technology in the jury room to search online for information about an accused, as well as the long-standing concerns about jury-tampering.

Michael Connelly from the Central Statistics Office also joined the show to talk about their latest figures, which show that household savings and disposable income increased last year. Gross household savings increased by almost 1.8 million euro to just over 11 million euro in 2012. Gross disposable income of households also increased – by 2.5%. Higher wages and profits of the self employed were the main factors, which contributed to the increase.

David Tighe from Voxcom Media was also in studio to let listeners, particularly those interested in business advertising, know about a special training course that’s being run in Ennis. “Bang for your Buck” is a half day course (takes place on April 30th) for people in Business to get the most out of their advertising. The course is aimed at anyone with responsibility for developing an understanding of media within their business and who has a need to formulate a clear strategy on how it should be used in their business.
