On Monday’s edition of The Afternoon Show, Claire O’Connor, Volunteers Services Manager with Special Olympics Ireland and Former Irish and Munster Rugby flanker David Wallace joined the show. David is also a board member of Special Olympics Ireland.The Special Olympic Games will take place in Limerick over four days from Thursday, June 12th to Sunday June 15th. In what will be one of the largest and most prestigious sporting events to take place in Ireland next year, 1,500 Special Olympics athletes from throughout the island of Ireland will travel to the Mid West. They will be accompanied by 500 coaches and official delegates as well as a contingent of over 3,000 family members. The Games will be supported by a team of 3,000 volunteers who will be recruited from the Mid West and beyond over the coming weeks. The 3,000 volunteers required for the games are being recruited at the moment. Philip Moreau, Gardening Expert and Horticulturist from Glenbrook Nurseries in Tuamgraney joined us to answer all of your queries this afternoon. Including how to go about setting hedging for shelter. Kevin O’Loughlin is the Clare Community Games Co-ordinator and joined the show to let listeners know about the diverse range of activities and competitions available to kids across the county. The HSE Community Games is an Irish independent voluntary organisation and National Governing Body providing opportunities for children and young people to grow and develop in a positive and healthy way while experiencing a wide range of sporting and cultural activities. The National Festivals are held over 2 weekends every year, one in May and one in August where on each weekend between 3 and 4,000 children compete for their area, town, county and province.
