On today’s edition of The Afternoon Show Máire was joined by Kathrina Bentley from Dogs Trust. Dogs Trust has received a record number of surrendered dogs from members of the public who unfortunately see their New Year without their pets. Because of the high numbers of surrendered dogs the charity has had to take in they have been unable to offer places to pound dogs, which are most at risk. They also say the impact of the CRC scandal has hit home – with many people canceling their charitable subscriptions. Brian Flynn, presenter on The Late Train and Clare’s Got Talent Judge for 2014 and Clare FM’s Breakfast Show host Ciara Revins were also in studio ahead of this Friday’s deadline for entries for Clare’s biggest talent search. The 3rd event of it’s kind – Clare’s Got Talent 2014 is kicking off shortly and this Friday is deadline day for applicants. But what do you need to know ahead of giving a good audition. Brian Flynn has been a long serving member of the judging panel and has seen the best and worst of auditions. He has tips for those trying their hand and hoping for the big €5,000 prize and the coveted title. Ciara will be on hand for contestants to put them at ease and help them through the live performance as they take to the stage in Glor.
Also we heard how The Courthouse Gallery in Ennistymon is exhibiting a collaboration between Artist Robert Dunne and art students from Scoil Mhuire and CBS Ennistymon .The students worked with Courthouse Gallery employee Steve Mathison Medrano to produce models of their houses using brown paper bags. Robert forwarded instructions to the students on what he wanted them to make and the work was completed under the instruction of art teacher Mary Fahy. The inspiration for the work comes from Dunne’s experiences growing up in a mining village in Kilkenny with the ever-present fear of sink-holes.
Damien O’Reilly from Corofin also joined Máire to talk about the Corofin Tradfest concert with Mick, Michelle and Louise Mulcahy & Cyril O’Donoghue at Teach Ceoil, Corofin at 8.30 pm this Saturday. It promises to be a great night of music and song as the organisers get ready for their annual trad festival at the end of February.
