On today’s edition of the show Marcus White from the Hydro Hotel in Lisdoonvarna spoke to Máire about how Lisdoonvarna has made it into a new Lonely Planet. The renowned travel guide has just brought out an e book guide called Travel Resolutions: 52 New Ways to Experience Planet Earth.  Lisdoonvarna is entry No. 3 under the heading Find Love or Just Dance!

 

Pat O’Doherty from Ennistymon is a founding member of the charitable organisation Pemba Support. The Pemba Support AGM will be held in The Falls Hotel in Ennistymon tomorrow – Friday January 10th at 8pm for all interested parties. The organisation works on the island community off the coast of Tanzania to help improve and develop services for the islanders. 

 

Rosaleen Molloy is the Director of Music Generation and joined the show to tell listeners how €400,000 in funding has been allocated to Clare. Music Generation, the U2 and Ireland Funds’ supported National Music Education Programme has announced that Clare has been selected for participation in the fourth and final round of the programme. The Clare Music Education Partnership (CMEP) will receive over €400,000 in seed funding which will enable high quality, accessible music education programmes to be provided for children and young people in the local community.  CMEP aims to develop a range of affordable and accessible performance music programmes for people in Clare by 2017 – working in cooperation with existing providers and will establish the county’s first music education service, with a hub in Ennis and outreach locations in Shannon, Scariff, Kilrush and Ennistymon.

 

Emma Greene is a student at Scoil Mhuire Ennistymon and joined the show live from the RDS where they are attending the 50th BT Young Scientist exhibition in Dublin. Emma and her group are showcasing their project – An investigation into the potential anti-bacterial properties of North Clare seaweed extracts for the treatment of acne. The annual competition is expected to attract over 40,000 people making it one of the largest events of its kind in Europe.

 

Catriona Lowry joined us to review two new cinema releases – 12 Years a Slave with Chiwetel Ejiofar and Michael Fassbender – the film is being tauted for numerous awards including baftas and more.  She’ll also look at Last Vegas with a stellar cast of Morgan Freeman, Michael Douglas, Robert de Niro and Kevin Kline.
