 Joining Máire on today’s show was Deirdre Moriarty, Acting Operations Manager with the Irish Guide Dogs for the Blind. To mark World Sight Day on Thursday 10th October, Irish Guide Dogs for the Blind would like to invite more people who are vision impaired in the Clare region to consider training with a Guide Dog or access its Orientation and Mobility (Long Cane) Training programme. Currently 172 people have a Guide Dog in Ireland with an average of 40 Guide Dog Partnerships created each year. There are 3 people with a Guide Dog in Clare. For more info locall 1850506 300A special blind walk to raise awareness of World Sight Day took place a little earlier on today in Ennis.  Organised by Clare Sunset Foundation – people gathered to be blindfolded and be led through the streets to experience what it’s like to be blind. Clare FM’s Denise Woods attended and took part in the walk. She met with the organiser – Pat Murphy and those who took part.

 

Mary O’Donoghue from the West Clare Family Resource Centre also let us know about how the Centre is marking Mental Health Week with a number of activities on Friday, 11th October at the Community Centre in Kilrush.  At 11.00am there will be an Art Therapy Workshop, which will look at how to use art and creativity to create peace of mind.  Yoga has long been recognised as a means for relaxing and for exercise and there will be a Chair Yoga Class held at 2.00pm in the Community Centre.   The West Clare FRC have organised a workshop on mindfulness at the Potters Hand Coffee Shop on Vandeleur Street at 7pm which will include a talk, some songs and tea/coffee and cake.

Orla Foley, one of the organisers behind this weekend’s Boru 3 Peaks Challenge joined us for a word about this year’s event. Boru 3 Peaks is an annual intergenerational community event taking place this weekend- the three peaks are Tountinna, Moylussa and Keeper Hill. There will be registration at The Anchor Inn from 7 – 9pm tomorrow night.  People are asked to download the registration form from www.boru3peaks.com and complete it before attending registration.
