On The Afternoon Show today Fr. Tony Flannery, Redemptorist priest and a founding member of the Association of Catholic Priests joined Gavin Grace to talk about his views on what change, if any, will occur with the election of a new Pope. The Association of Catholic Priests is an association for Catholic Priests who wish to have a forum, and a voice to reflect, discuss and comment on issues affecting the Irish Church and society today.

Miriam O’Neill from AA was also a guest of the show this afternoon and discussed with Gavin the results of their latest survey.  The AA has found that as many as 79% of drivers in Ireland are planning to hold onto their current vehicle for as long as possible. This statistic was generated from an AA online poll of over 9,600 people carried out during January of this year as part of their ongoing campaign to emphasize to their Members the importance of car maintenance particularly among those now driving older vehicles

Richard Ward is a Wildlife Artist living in the Maam Valley in Co. Galway and is the focus of an episode of a new wildlife series on TV.  Richard spoke with Gavin Grace about how he was constantly disturbed by noises in his attic for months each summer for the last three years. A female Pine Martin who he calls ‘Queen Maeve’ made her home in Richard’s attic, sneaking in through a small hole under the drain pipe and is now returning annually to have her family. In 1992 Richard was commissioned to paint an Irish stamp to commemorate one of Irelands most endangered species, he chose the pine marten. They will be featured on the first episode of the new Living the Wildlife series on RTE tonight at 7pm.

Brendan Murray, ADA Adjudicator of the 52nd West Clare Drama Festival also joined Gavin for an update on how the various drama groups are faring during this year’s festival in Doonbeg. The festival continues with nightly plays until March 11th.

Art Teacher Sile Ni Dheargain and students Michaela McNamara, Freya Ziemann and Caireann Brigdale also joined Gavin in studio to talk about a project and competition they have undertaken. 2nd year students of Art at Gaelcholáiste an Chláir have come up with an imaginative approach to recycling and fashion design, which will see them represent their school at the Southern Regional finals of Junk Kouture in Limerick next month. Junk Kouture is a national competition run in association with the European Recycling Platform, which challenges teenagers to create high-end wearable fashion from everyday junk that would normally find its way into the bin.
