Featured on today’s edition of The Afternoon Show was a selection of views and reaction from the people of Clare on Saturday’s All Ireland Hurling success.  Clare FM’s Denise Woods was out and about to ask people their opinions on the big game, the homecoming and the lift it’s given the people of Clare. Joe Gorman is the Chairman of O’Callaghan’s Mills GAA Club and also joined Máire Moynahan on the show to talk about how the Liam McCarthy Cup arrived in Kilkishen last night to a crowd of over 4,000 kids and adults who were there to celebrate the senior hurlers and their manager Davy Fitzgerald.

 

Ann O’Halloran is the Director of In-Tuition and joined the show to let job seekers know of a new course on digital advertising that they may be eligible for. Irish businesses are recognising the need to have a strong online presence and are looking for staff with the necessary skills to support this work. This is great news for job seekers. Bernard Purcell, Editor of The Irish World Newspaper in London told about the celebrations in London following the All Ireland win – for all the Clare emigrants.  Classy Clare was featured in the latest edition of the paper.  He also spoke about fundraising for a new GAA HQ in Royslip in London is underway to improve the facilities there. 

 

Red Hurley, one of Ireland’s legendary entertainers, joined Máire on today’s show. He is principally known as a solo artist, although he has performed with various bands including some of Ireland’s top show bands. Red emerged most strongly in the 1970s as one of the country’s first pop stars, while in 1976 he represented Ireland at the Eurovision Song Contest with the song "When", composed by Brendan Graham. He is one of the most successful solo male singers in Irish show-business history, with a chart and live performance career spanning five decades. He remains one of Ireland’s best loved entertainers and, since 2005, has also enjoyed significant success in both the UK and USA markets, with his forays into inspirational Gospel Recordings, with luminaries such as Maya Angelou, Oprah Winfrey and Terry Wogan numbered among the admirers of the Irish-born singer. Red Hurley now enjoys renewed success both in Ireland and the USA. In 2010 he celebrated 40 years in show business with a sell out tour of Ireland. He comes to UCH Limerick this Friday night. 

 

Noreen Lynch also let listeners know about a special Trad 4 Trocaire session that has been organised in Brogan’s bar this coming Thursday night.  The music will start at 7pm and go on ‘til late with musicians changing every 2 hours – all funds raised will go to Trocaire.
