Richard James is the Deputy Online Editor with Metro in London, he joined Gavin Grace on The Afternoon Show today following the news that two people have died after a helicopter crashed into a crane in central London and plunged to the ground. Four people were taken to hospital – one person’s critically ill. Witnesses reported seeing debris falling from the sky after the aircraft struck the crane before exploding into flames near Vauxhall station during the morning rush hour.

Adam Harris is a student from Wicklow and has created a new app, which it’s hoped will assist young people who are suicidal or are suffering from depression. The app will be launched by the G.R.A.S.P Life Foundation in Dublin today. The app. was created by the Greystones student with support from Bray Lions Club, and is designed to enable young people in any part of the country to instantly access help lines and support services in their area. It has the backing of major organisations providing these services including Aware, Console, SOSAD and SOS.

Also on the show this afternoon, Clare FM’s Doireann Wylde has been meeting people on the streets to find out how they feel about traces of horse meat being found in beef burgers in a number of Irish supermarkets.

Alan Milton, Communications Manager with the GAA, also spoke to Gavin as the first ever “International Hurling Festival” was launched today as part of The gathering 2013.  Hurling teams from every corner of the globe will take part in a series of games to be held at Pearse Stadium in Salthill next September.

Aine Hensey  from Oidhreacht an Chlair also discussed how the life and work of Muiris O Rochain will be celebrated at a special concert in the Armada Hotel, Spanish Point this weekend (Saturday 19th).  The co-founder and long time director of Scoil Samhraidh Willie Clancy passed away in October 2011. Artists performing on the night include Seamus Begley and Oisin MacDiarmada, Mick O’Brien and Liam O’Connor. Proceeds from the event will go to Oidhreacht an Chlair.

Barney Sheehan from The White House in Limerick also joined Gavin as the weekly poetry nights in the bar are heading towards their 500th anniversary. Tonight poet Patrick Stack will be reading his work. Patrick, a Limerick native, is living in Kilmaley and is a member of the Clare Three-Legged Stool Poets.
