Joining Máire on today’s edition of The Afternoon Show was Sally Smith from Open Sesame in Ennis to discuss how our diets have changed over the years.  She gave us some tips and advice on natural foods and vitamins that can help us with our digestive health, de-stressing – and she explained some common foods that we can use on a cosmetic level. She gave us some helpful tips on how to make our own face masks, including how you can use avocado, mashed banana and porridge as a face pack to rejuvenate the skin, and even natural alternatives and everyday food items that we can use for skincare.

Aidan Courtney  of The Ennis Book Shop was in studio for his weekly book review and today reviewed the latest edition of Ripley’s Believe it or Not! and the 2014 publication of the Guinness Book of Records.

Ultan Conlon is a Singer Songwriter from Loughrea and was also a guest of the show this afternoon. Ultan’s new single ‘The River Flows and the Woods Creep’ was released on the 20th of Sept. It’s from his new album ‘Songs of Love So Cruel” which was released at the weekend.  Results of his foray into song writing came in the form of Ultan’s first record ‘Bless Your Heart’ (2009). Recorded near home with a band he’d assembled after a few years of playing across Europe and the US, garnering high praise from listeners and reviewers alike; "The most impressive Irish debut since Damien Rice’s O" said the The Evening Herald.

Paddy Hynes from Corofin also joined Máire ahead of a Trad 4 Trocaire Session, which is being held in Bofey Quinn’s in Corofin tonight – the pub has been running a Wednesday and Saturday night trad session for 15 years, it’s open to all musicians.  There will be a raffle and food during the night and money will be raised for Trocaire.  Last year the session raised €600 for the charity. Paddy is acting as MC for tonight’s event. Paddy also treated us to a live recitation called “ The Old Violin”.
