Irene Gunning, CEO Early Childhood Ireland joined Gavin on air to speak in relation to a new report from the EU Commission showing that women in Ireland still earn less than men – on average, getting 17 per cent less in their annual salary. Women in Ireland continue to have the primary responsibility for care of children – and this is deemed as one of the main reasons for discrepancies in pay. The main issues she considered included the participation rate of women in the workforce, and the level of childcare facilities available nationwide. An idea of increasing paternity pay also provoked a great reaction from the listeners of Clare FM.

 
Deputy Editor of Irish Central in New York – Molly Muldoon joined the show for her weekly feature from the United States – Molly discussed the latest news from across the Atlantic, what’s affecting the Irish community stateside and what’s having an impact on us here at home. She concentrated on stories about an Irish priest who has been put forward for canonization and the latest on controversial plans to celebrate St. Patrick’s Day in Hoboken, New Jersey.
 
Clare FM’s Dermot Hogan visited Kilrush and attended their local weekly farmers market. It runs on every Thursday from 9-2. Dermot spoke with a number of traders who have stalls at the market but also gauged the opinions of locals and customers of the market.

Kevin McGillicuddy, Clare FM’s Sideline View presenter joined Gavin to discuss what’s coming up in tonight’s edition of the programme. A busy weekend of sport lies ahead with both the senior hurlers and footballers involved in two crucial matches. Davy Fitzgerald’s chargers could wrap up the season’s first piece of silverware with a win over Tipperary while the footballers face close neighbours and rivals Limerick in a must win clash on Sunday.
The sport’s conversation continued with Simon Lewis a rugby correspondent with the Irish Examiner. He previewed Sundays rearranged Six Nations clash between Ireland and France in Paris. Overall his heart says Ireland but when pushed harder for a prediction his head ruled that Ireland’s twelve-year wait for a win in Paris could continue.
