The Banner Ladies have secured a record thirteenth Clare Senior Ladies Football Championship after defeating a Kilmihil side at Shanahan McNamara Park, Doonbeg, with whom they have faced in three of the four most recent County title deciders.
Playing with the aid of a stiff first-half breeze, Kilmihil seemed on course to upset the odds as the challengers led the holders by 0-5 to 0-02 at the half-time interval with an Ellie O’Gorman point ably assisted by a brace of scores from Catríona Callinan and Becky Mahon.
Catríona Callinan would increase Kilmihil’s advantage shortly after the restart, however, it would prove to be her side’s final score of the day as the champions rallied to weather the storm.
Led by a tour de force from dual star Niamh O’Dea who kicked three second-half points, JJ O’Dea’s charges consolidated their victory through the unerring accuracy of Gráinne Nolan from placed balls and a flowing team move finishing at the boot of Sarah Ní Ceallaigh, ensuring the Clare Senior Ladies Football crown returned to the Ennis club for a record thirteenth occasion.
