A Clare auctioneer has accused the state of “chasing the market” with regard to housing instead of actively building homes.

It comes as the cut-off point for eligible participants of the first home shared equity scheme for this county has been raised from €325,000 to €350,000.

The scheme sees either banks or the state contribute up to 30% of the cost of constructing or purchasing a new dwelling in exchange for a stake in the property.

Diarmuid McMahon of Sherry Fitzgerald McMahon in Ennis says the price ceiling needs to be higher to assist those struggling to afford a home.
