Clare GP Calls For Mandatory CPR Training To Be Rolled Out In Secondary Schools

A Clare GP is imploring the government to roll out a mandatory CPR training programme for secondary school students.

According to the Irish Heart Foundation, more than 70% of all cardiac arrests take place in the home and if resuscitation is not attempted within 10 minutes, the chance of survival is near zero.

In Clare alone, it’s estimated that 1,800 people are currently living with heart failure.

 

Ennis GP, Dr Carly Lewis, who saved a male hurling fan’s life in Dublin last August after administering CPR, says it’s an invaluable skill everyone should know.
