Clare’s Green Party Senator is reassuring that the Transport Minister understands the reality of the reliance on private cars in rural areas.

Minister Eamon Ryan is bringing a memo to Cabinet this morning which looks at suggestions to half the number of private car emissions by 2030.

The National Transport Authority has suggested measures which include a €10 daily charge for driving in cities, a halving of public transport fares, a 20km/h reduction on national road speed limits, and a significant increase in parking charges.

Inagh-based Green Party Senator Róisín Garvey insists the strategy will target urban areas first and will focus on delivering more public transport options in rural parts.
