Clare’s Fianna Fáil TD has claimed that the government’s €30 million loan to An Post will effectively fund job losses at the state-owned firm.
Communications Minister Denis Naughten says the five-year loan is the biggest restructuring of a state company in Irish history and will save rural post offices.
Under the terms of the loan, post offices will modernise the services they offer, and postmaster contracts won’t be renewed if they don’t meet the changes needed.
