Clare VFI Chair Insists Supports Urgently Needed To Bolster Businesses Ahead Of Tourist Season

The Chair of Clare VFI insists supports for struggling businesses in the hospitality sector are needed as a matter of urgency to prevent further closures.

It comes ahead of a motion from the Regional Group of TDs next Thursday, calling on the Government to cut the VAT rate to 9 per cent for food businesses or “accept responsibility for mass closures”.

The Taoiseach has said splitting the rate to help restaurants, pubs and cafes is “technically possible and warrants consideration”, though the Finance Minister says this isn’t being considered at the moment.

Ennis Publican Charlie O’Meara says fresh ideas are needed to bolster businesses in the sector ahead of the tourist.
