Clare’s Retained Firefighters Hopeful As Talks Begin At Labour Court

Clare’s retained firefighters say the future of emergency response in rural communities is on the line today.

On Call First responders have suspended their industrial action for 24 hours, as talks aimed at settling a dispute over retained fire services have begun at the Labour Court.

SIPTU, the union representing the firefighters, has told the court that employers need to acknowledge extra resources and proper pay are needed.

If a resolution isn’t reached, an all-out strike of two thousand firefighters will take place from midnight.

Killaloe Shop Steward, Edward Moloney has been telling Clare FM’s Daragh Dolan that they need to know they are valued to maintain any sliver of hope for recruitment in the future.
