Retained firefighters in Ennis fear their ongoing strike action could be escalated to one station in the county closing a day if a resolution isn’t found soon.

Members of the fire service represented by SIPTU have resumed industrial action this morning following their rejection of the Labour Court’s recommendation last week amid an ongoing recruitment and retention crisis.

Local authorites have refused to copperfasten an emergency call-out plan for the duration of the strike which SIPTU has condemned as a “cynical move to pit the public against the men and women of the retained fire service”.

Ennis-based retained firefighter Mark Hayes has been telling Clare FM’s Seán Lyons that firefighters on the ground don’t feel listened to by the government.
