Former Defence Forces General Believes Shannon Would Be Ideal Location For Fighter Squadron Base

A former General of the Irish Defence Forces is calling for the establishment of an Air Policing Fighter Squadron base at Shannon Airport.

It comes as the Government’s Consultative Forum on International Security is underway in Cork today with subsequent meetings to take place later this week in Galway & Dublin with a view to determining the future of the state’s foreign policy.

Ireland is the only European country without military radar technology despite, 80% of all trans-atlantic flights passing overhead.

Former Brigadier General, Ger Aherne has been telling Clare FM’s Daragh Dolan that Shannon is the ideal location for an air security base.
