The Canon Hamilton trophy will have a new home in 2017.

Clare and Munster title holders Ballyea are out of this years championship after losing out in this weekends quarter final action.

Newmarket on Fergus have ended Ballyea’s reign as provincial kings after beating Fergal Hegarty’s side by 1-16 to 1-12 in their last eight tie.

The Blues led by five points as the game entered injury time, and there was late drama as Ronan McCormack saved a Tony Kelly penalty to ensure their progress to the last four of the championship.

Sixmilebridge emphasised their position as favourites to succeed Ballyea as champions, with John O’Meara’s side producing a ruthless performance to beat Cratloe by 3-18 to 1-14.

The goals for the Bridge came from Brian Corry, Alan Mulready and Gavin Whyte while Jamie Shanahan was unerring from the placed ball, landing 0-10 over the course of the hour.

Clooney Quin bridged a 65 year gap without a semi final appearance after they beat Eire Óg by 3-14 to 2-12, with a brace of second half goals from Ronan O’Donnell proving crucial, while Peter Duggan continued his assault on the top scorer charts by landing 0-9 and taking his personal tally in 2017 to 2-44 in four championship games.

Clonlara are in also the hat after they beat Tulla by 1-18 to 1-9 with Cathal O’Connell accounting for 0-8 of that while the goal came just before half time from Cormac O’Donovan.

In the intermediate championship, Tubber, Smith O’Briens, Parteen and Kilmaley all advanced to the last four.

The draw for the semi finals of both championships will be held this evening at Clare GAA Headquarters in Clareabbey from 6.15pm
