Clare’s Independent TD says the government needs to be clear about it’s long term plans for this county’s heritage sites.

Shannon Heritage is to receive €2.6 million euro to allow it keep Bunratty and King John’s Castles open until the end of the year – short of the €6.4 million it claimed was needed to keep the sites open until June 2021.

The news has been welcomed by Shannon Group, with 60 full time staff across the sites now kept in work until at least the end of this year.

The group says the move will benefit employees and the the mid-west tourism industry.

Scariff Deputy Michael McNamara says whether Shannon Heritage’s future is a part of the wider Shannon Group needs to be determined quickly.
