New champions will be crowned in the Clare Senior Hurling championship this year.

It’s after holders Ballyea were beaten by Newmarket in this weekends quarter final tie to end their reign as provincial kings.

Manager Fergal Hegarty says while they’re disappointed to see their campaign come to an end, he’s confident they can reach those heights in the future once more.

Meanwhile Newmarket selector Kevin Halpin says his side are driven by the hurt of last years campaign as they bid for a second title this decade.

Halpin says there’s a very different mood in the camp now ahead of the draw for the last four.

Sixmilebridge are within touching distance of a 5th final appearance since 2011 after they got the better of Cratloe.

Goals from Brian Corry, Alan Mulready and Gavin Whyte saw them maintain their unbeaten run in this years championship as they look for a 3rd title in the last 5 seasons.

Manager John O’Meara says while he was pleased with the performance, there’s still plenty to work on.

Clooney/Quin are also into this evenings semi final draw after beating Eire Óg to reach the last four for the first time since 1952, while Clonlara are into a 9th semi final in the last 10 years after victory over Tulla.

In the intermediate championship, Tubber, Smith O’Briens, Parteen and Kilmaley all advanced to the last four.

The draw for the semi finals of both championships will be held this evening at Clare GAA Headquarters in Clareabbey from 6.15pm
