A man is due to appear in court this evening following the theft of a car in Ennis, during which a couple were threatened with a knife.
The man in his early 20’s was arrested by Gardaí in Newmarket on Fergus following a short pursuit.
The alarm was raised at around twenty past 11 last night when a couple sitting in a car in a housing estate on the Lahinch Road were approached by a man wielding a knife.
The suspect jumped into their car and fled the scene. The couple were unharmed.
The car was spotted close to Newmarket on Fergus some time later and Garda units gave chase.
It was located after it crashed in the village and a man was arrested at the scene.
He’s being held at Ennis Garda Station and is due before the courts this evening.
