The Transport Minister says there’s unlikely to be any movement on the reopening of Crusheen Railway Station in the next five years.

It comes just a week after Iarnród Éireann CEO Jim Meade told the Oireachtas Transport Committee the decommissioned station will only come back into use if the Government decides to fund it.

The North Clare rail stop was closed to passenger traffic in 1976 and wasn’t included in the All-Island Strategic Rail Review published during the summer despite frequent calls for its reintroduction to the national rail network.

Responding to a parliamentary question from Scariff Independent TD Michael McNamara, Minister for Transport Eamon Ryan says although he’d like to see Crusheen brought back into use, projects such as the Ballysimon Train Station will take priority.
