Calls have been made for the controversial Francis Street cottages to be used as disability and acquired brain injury accommodation.

Following a meeting with the Head of Services in Clare for Acquired Brain Injury, Independent Councillor Gerry Flynn has asked Clare County Council prioritise the development of small and specifically constructed housing for people with acquired brain injuries or disabilities who wish to live independently.

The local authority has confirmed that in the first three months of the year, 12 housing units were allocated those with disabled, representing 28% of its total allocation.

Shannon-based Councillor Flynn says the six Francis Street cottages, which have been earmarked for demolition to make way for a mixed-use development under Ennis 2040, are ideally suited as disability accommodation due to the close proximity of essential services.
