Over 1,000 Patients On Consultant Waiting Lists For Longer Than 18 Months At UHL Heading Into Winter

Over 1,000 people were on a waiting list for inpatient and outpatient appointments at UHL and Ennis for more than 18 months at the end of October.

The latest figures from the National Treatment Purchase Fund shows a marginal drop in the number of adults and children waiting to see a consultant in the MidWest ahead of the Winter months.

NTPF Figures show there were 25,875 adults on inpatient and outpatient lists at University Hospital Limerick in October.

In total 1,041 were waiting 18 months or more at the Dooradoyle facility, with 33% in line for a Dermatology appointment, while Vascular Surgery and Ophthalmology (treatment and diagnostics of eye disorders) made up a further 20%.

For the 107 Children on a waiting list of greater than a year and a half at the Model 4 Hospital, 41% were seeking Paediatric services, with 19% listed for an ear, nose or throat appointment.

Additionally two patients have each been waiting longer than twelve months to see consultants in the disciplines of Urology and Maxillo-Facial services which relates to the medical treatment of the mouth, face, jaw and neck.

In Ennis, meanwhile, Cardiology remains the most in demand service, where 856 patients are waiting to see a consultant, 161 of whom are waiting more than a year, with 3 patients waiting longer than 18 months.

35 Children were also on waiting lists in the county town at the end of the month, with two patients waiting over a year to see a consultant paediatrician.
