A total of 83,543 applications were made to the Central Applications Office nationwide this year including 7,365 from mature applicants.

83,369 offers of courses have been issued by the CAO in Round One – almost 52,000 of which are for Level 8 courses with the remaining 31,400 for courses at Level 6 or 7.

As some applicants have received more than one offer, the overall number of applicants who’ve received an offer is 56,571 which is 2% below last year’s figure.

In Clare, 1,457 applicants have received an offer which is 179 fewer than the 1,636 applicants who were issued offers last year – indicating a decrease in 2024 of 11%.

This is despite the number of students who sat the Leaving Cert in Clare this year increasing by two to 1,378.

Westmeath also recorded a drop of 11% and at 12%, Cavan was the only county to encounter a greater percentage decline in its number of offers received.

The closing date for Round One offer acceptances is September 3rd at 3pm and Round Two offers will be available on the CAO website at 2pm on September 9th.
