Local RNLI services have launched over two dozen times in the past year with a total of 23 people rescued.

New figures by the Royal National Lifeboat Institution show an increase of 8 per cent in the number of people brought to safety by Irish lifeboat crews nationwide compared to 2009 figures.

Here in the Mid West Lough Derg launched the inshore lifeboat 18 times with 23 people rescued while Kilrush RNLI launched on eight different occasions in reponse to emergency calls.

Most of their callouts occurred from May to November.
