The memory of 30 people who died in a plane crash near Shannon airport 65 years ago will be honoured in Ennis thisThursday evening.

Just one passenger survived the crash of The Pan American "Empress of the Skies" plane which hit the ground in Cahertigue, Newmarket on Fergus on April 15th, 1948.

Those who lost their lives are buried in a mass grave at Drumcliffe Cemetery – and they’re remembered in a new publication by author Tony Cassidy and the Clare Roots Society – "From a Rock to a Hard Place" which will be launched at the Civic Rooms of Ennis Town Council this evening.

90 year old Jack Hogan from Newmarket on Fergus was first on the scene of the plane crash 65 yeas ago and has told Clare FM that he has never forgotten the distressing scenes.
