The number of patients waiting over 18 months for a Cardiology appointment at Ennis General Hospital has increased by 40% in the space of a month.
The latest figures from the National Treatment Purchase Fund shows over 30,000 people were on waiting lists in the MidWest at the end of September.
At University Hospital Limerick, 2,611 adults remained on the inpatient list, with 35% waiting for an Ophthalmology or eye care appointment.
Of the 364 children on the list, the most in demand discipline was ear, nose, and throat services with 58% waiting to see relevant consultants.
In Ennis, there were 718 adults and 8 children languishing on the inpatient list, where 68% of adults were waiting for a Urology appointment and all children were waiting for small volume specialties.
On the outpatient lists, Dermatology was the most in-demand service at University Hospital Limerick, where over 4,400 adults were waiting to be called, of those 29% were waiting more than 18 months for an appointment.
Additionally, of the 2,195 children waiting for paediatric appointments, 10% were on the waiting list for over a year and a half.
Returning to Ennis General, of the 1,166 adults on the outpatient list, 90% were hoping to see a Cardiology consultant.
At the end of September, 107 of those patients had been on the same waiting list for over a year and a half, which is up more than 40% from the figure recorded in August.
