Over 400 Reports Of Suspected Welfare Fraud In Clare Last Year

Over 400 allegations of Welfare Fraud were made against people living in Clare last year.

The most prevalent complaints related to welfare recipients who were reported to be either working or co-habiting, while the Department of Social Protection also received complaints relating to the non-disclosure of assets and non-residency.

In a statement to Clare FM, the Welfare Control Division confirmed that 40% of cases referred to persons who were found not to be in receipt of any social welfare payment.

 

The Department also noted that the highest proportion of allegations were made in relation to the Jobseekers Allowance, One Parent Family and Illness Schemes.
