There’s been a sharp rise in the level of overcrowding at the region’s main hospital after the weekend.

The latest figures from the Irish Nurses and Midwives Organisation shows 84 people were left waiting for beds at University Hospital Limerick this morning, 55 of those on trolleys in the Emergency Department.

The overall figure is 29 more than the next busiest facility, on a morning when there were 564 patients waiting for beds at hospitals across the country.
