A Clare Oireachtas Health Committee member insists the right structures are in place to reduce elective waiting lists in the MidWest region.

New figures from the National Treatment Purchase Fund show that 9,448 patients were removed from outpatient lists across the UL Hospitals Group last year without receiving care, with 78% of cases involving University Hospital Limerick.

The government had set a target of reducing national waiting lists by 10% , but just a 3% reduction was achieved.

Despite this, Ennistymon Fine Gael Senator Martin Conway says the HSE’s expedited appointment of a Regional Health Executive for the MidWest is sufficient to tackle the problem.
