Agri minister asked to re-examine ruling on stock for farmers

The Agriculture Minister is being urged to re-examine a ruling which has been described as ‘an unfair attack on the most marginialised farmers in the county.’

Clare farmers who had limited stock levels in 2011, face losing their Disadvantaged Area Scheme payments because of a ruling issued by Minister Coveney late last year.

It doubled the required density, meaning that if farmers did not meet the new criteria last year, then they will not be eligible for payments in 2012 or 2013. 

An appeals system is underway but East Clare Fianna Fail Councillor Pat Hayes feels it is very unfair on farmers affected
