Almost 700 vacant and social homes have been returned to use in Clare in the last ten years.
New figures released by the Department of Housing show that over €13m has been invested in this county under the voids programme since 2014.
The Voids Programme is designed to support local authorities in preparing vacant and derelict homes for re-letting.
Since 2014 , the initiative has enabled Clare County Council to refurbish 656 social homes for residential use.
In the same timeframe, the local authority has received €13,236,051 under the scheme.
2015 and 2021 were the most lucrative years for restoration in this county, were 96 units and 82 units were returned to use respectively.
While last year just 56 social homes were brought back to use with the total investment amounting to just over €1m.
As of last December , there are currently 60 vacant social homes here, 50% of which are in West Clare, 10%, in East Clare, a further 10% in Shannon, with the remaining 30% in Ennis.
According to the local authority, eleven of these units are traveler specific accommodation, nineteen are projects , while the remaining thirty are casual vacancies, which arise when the previous occupant either moves out or has passed away.
