Efforts to evacuate foreign journalists from the flashpoint Syrian city of Homs failed yesterday.

Negotiations that were underway aimed at getting the journalists out failed – however three wounded Syrians were moved out of the conflict zone by ambulance.

A team of some 20 volunteers, with four ambulances and a hearse, entered the Baba Amr district and waited there for nearly three hours while representatives of the International Committee of the Red Cross waited outside.

The team was told that reporter Edith Bouvier refused to leave if the conditions she insisted on were not met.  However the Red Cross was not allowed direct contact with her.

Bouvier and British photographer Paul Conroy were among those wounded in the attack on Wednesday, which claimed the lives of war correspondent Marie Colvin and French photographer Remi Ochlik.
