Anti-Social Behaviour Complaints In Clare Social Housing Up Almost 20%

There has been an almost 20% increase in the number of complaints of anti-social behaviour in Clare social housing in a year.

Clare County Council’s Estate Management Team – which monitors local authority housing, traveller sites and private rental accommodation – has responded to over 400 complaints so far this year.

In the first six months of 2024, Clare County Council has conducted 1,054 housing inspections which is 150% above the 426 carried out over the same period in 2023.

Anti-social behaviour complaints in Clare social housing have increased by more than 18% with 449 having been made since the beginning of the year.

Over the course of its inspections, the local authority has made 37 referrals to Tenancy Support Services including TUSLA and has issued 38 tenancy notifications or warnings.

11 abandonment notices have been served while keys have been collected from casual vacancies on 23 occasions.

The local authority has noted that one repossession order was secured earlier this year in a case where a council-owned property was being illegally occupied – while several further repossession applications will be going through the courts in the coming months.

As part of its duties, the Estate Management Team has also conducted 638 inspections of private rental accommodation which is over 37% more than this time last year.
