The Bishop of Killaloe has invited Pope Francis to come here during his upcoming visit to Ireland.

The Pontiff has confirmed he will visit Ireland in 2018, when the World Meeting of Families takes place in Dublin.

Hopes have been expressed locally that he will take in Clare as part of this trip, and in particular the historic monastic site at Holy Island on Lough Derg.

Bishop Fintan Monahan was part of an audience of Irish Bishops who met Pope Francis on Friday, and says he did issue the invitation once more.
