The late Brother Seán McNamara is being celebrated today as a man of wit, wisdom and warmth.
The Kilmurry McMahon native, who was well-known for writing a number of publications on the life of Michael Cusack, has been laid to rest in his native Kilmurry McMahon this afternoon.
Tributes are pouring in for the late Christian Brother, who passed away peacefully on Saturday at the age of 95.
Born in Kilmurry McMahon in 1927, Brother Seán McNamara taught in the likes of Clonmel, Monaghan, Drogheda, Trim, Marino, Galway and Rome before being stationed at the New Road Monastery in Ennis.
A lifelong Michael Cusack fanatic, Brother Seán wrote a number of books and pamphlets on the GAA co-founder such and bequeathed his collection of material to the Michael Cusack centre.
In 2012, he was bestowed with an honorary MA degree from the University of Galway for his work on the Carron native.
Retired CBS Ennis teacher, Tom Lynch believes Brother Seán was a widely beloved figure.
Seán’s other celebrated qualities include his passion for gardening, his “jolly” personality and his charitable nature.
He was named ‘Clare Person of the Year’ in 2002, with former Bishop Willie Walsh noting he “highlighted your good points rather than your failings”.
