Calls are being made for people in the Midwest to make use of the injury unit at Ennis General Hospital over the Christmas period.
The UL Hospitals Group is advising people with minor injuries to avoid emergency departments, as overcrowding persists at University Hospital Limerick.
Numbers attending the unit in Ennis are on the up, with 10,600 attending last year – a figure that’s expected to be exceeded this year.
