Calls for further investment not downgrade of Ennis General

Clare members of the Regional Health Forum are welcoming the opening of the new in-patient unit at Ennis General, but have called for further investment to ensure the hospital’s viability going forward.

The 15 million euro state of the art facility will begin to accept patients from tomorrow, and is expected to be fully operational within six weeks.

The news comes as doubts linger over the future of emergency services at the county hospital, as the HSE state the  facility will be downgraded to a 12-hour local injuries unit while local Fine Gael TDs insists no final decision’s been made

Kilmaley Fianna Fail Councillor Tom McNamara is calling for further investments in Ennis and insists that the current services should be left untouched.
