The Seanad could come to Clare as part of the celebrations of the 1000th anniversary of the death of Brian Boru.
Boru, who was born in and ruled from Killaloe, died at the Battle of Clontarf in 1014, and will be remembered in his birthplace and across the country in a series of events this year.
During a Seanad meeting, Ennistymon's Martin Conway encouraged his fellow Senators to hold a once-off meeting at Dromoland Castle, the ancestral home of the O'Brien family, in April or May as part of these commemorations.
Seanad Chair Maurice Cummins said the proposal would be examined but warned costs could be prohibitive.
