A North Clare resident, who’s visually impaired, is calling on the local authority to increase the number of pedestrian crossings in the county.

It follows the publication of a new Vision Ireland survey, which shows a 37 per cent increase in reports of injuries caused by obstacles on footpaths nationally in the last 12 months.

Lahinch resident Claire Cassidy has raised concerns about access to the pedestrian crossing on the Liscannor Road and Clare County Council says while there are two controlled pedestrian crossings in the town, a Feasibility and Options report is being prepared for the consideration of additional facilities on Main street.

Claire believes the roads would be much safer for those who are visually impaired, if the council adopted similar measures to those in continental Europe.
