Midwest Simon is calling for Housing Assistance Payments to be urgently increased in light of the sharp rise in people falling into homelessness in this county.

The latest figures from the Department of Housing show 246 people registered with Clare’s Homeless Action Team over a five week period between February and March, a 117% rise on the previous month.

Of those, 44 were new presentations, with the remainder having previously sought assistance.

Head of Operations at Midwest Simon, Eleshia Fahy has been telling Clare FM’s Fiona Cahill that the numbers entering homelessness in this county will continue to rise if action isn’t taken soon.
