Gardaí have seized a vehicle on the Clare-Tipperary border after it was found to be travelling more than 40 kilometres per hour over the speed limit.
During a speed enforcement checkpoint on the M8 Motorway, the Clare-Tipperary Roads Policing Unit detected a Volkswagen saloon travelling at 163 kilometres per hour, in a 120 kilometre per hour zone.
The driver was the holder of a learner permit and was unacompanied in the vehicle at the time, while a check on the Garda Mobility App showed the insurance policy on the car was inactive.

The vehicle was subsequently seized and proceedings have commenced against the driver.
