An Ennis haulier insists ‘Christmas is safe’ despite fears being raised about squeezed supply lines across the globe.

There are suggestions though that some deliveries may be challenged after the festive period.

It’s just under seven weeks until Christmas, with many people choosing the beginning of November to begin their festive shopping.

While people are being encouraged to support local, including here in county Clare, many will avail of online facilities and deliveries over the next few weeks.

The price of diesel has been consistently above two euro a litre since late last month, with no signs of that falling any time soon.

The conflict in Ukraine continues to impact supply lines, with fears further Covid lockdowns in China could also add to the squeeze.

However, Patrick Bourke of Patrick Bourke Menswear in both Ennis and Kilrush, says many outlets have already over-ordered stock in preparation for any potential issues.

An Ennis haulier meanwhile says he’s more fearful of what 2023 might hold rather than the period between now and the end of December.

Eugene Drennan, of Spa Transport and the Lahinch Road, who’s also President of the Irish Road haulage Association, says short term concerns have been allayed, but issues may arise coming into January.
