The Construction Industry Federation says Clare is faring slightly better than the national average, in terms of the number of new homes built last year.

Figures up to the end of November show there 235 new houses completed across the county, a drop of 37 on the same timeframe for the previous year.

However, this 13% fall shows Clare fared better than the national trend with the number of completed homes dropping by a fifth across the country.

The CIF says the figures paint a bleak picture for the industry, with the final figure of new homes built for last year set to be the lowest since records began in 1970.
