Claims Clare Farmers “Abandoned To The Mercy” Of Organised Gangs

It’s claimed farmers in Clare are being “abandoned to the mercy” of organised gangs targetting rural properties.

The Kilmurry McMahon – based Chair of the Independent Farmers of Ireland says there’s widespread concern among farmers in this county over an increase in rural crime, particularly in relation to the theft of materials.

Séamus Shannon is calling for a change in legislation, as part of efforts to stamp out rural crime.

He wants to see a shift away from custodial sentencing to the imposition of significant fines for crimes such as theft and robbery.
