It’s claimed a lack of ambition from successive governments is to blame for Clare’s housing crisis.

According to a new report from independent Oireachtas agency, the Parliamentary Budget Office, a total of 4,646 households in this county are on the social housing list or availing of the Housing Assistance Payment.

Since 2016, the state has constructed over 2,170 new social homes in Clare, but according to the PBO, national targets must rise by 56% just to meet current supply deficits.

Clarecastle Sinn Féin Councillor and Clare Social Housing Committee member Tommy Guilfoyle insists an emergency response is needed.
